Ok, silly question I’m sure. Can Otis tell I am pregnant? Can dogs sense it? I don’t know if this is something he’s doing because he misses Amos or if he’s loving up to the baby. But for the past week when he lays on the couch with me, he ALWAYS snuggles up to my tummy. I am only 15 weeks today so it’s not like I’m sticking out that far.

I think they know. When I was pregnant with Meeghan a few years ago,I had a cat that laid on my tummy whenever I lay on the couch. He would get a little put out when she kicked and he would stare at the place that kicked. Then he would circle around and lay down again.

I would have to say yes. Dogs can sniff out cancer, my dogs know when I am not feeling well. I don't think it would be your pregnancy as we know it, I think he knows there is something changing with you and probably misses Amos as well. Now being the only dog with noone to play with you are his new buddy all the way around. That is my opinion. OH and PS. no question is silly!!!!!!!!!!! Good point, Otis is how shall I say it. Not very active. Doesn't wanna be, never has been. Ever. So I was wondering if he knew. A part of me wants to think he does. That's why him laying around hasn't bothered me too much since he lost his brother. He's always been my lazy puggie.

Pozie knew for sure with Jerrod...She would be laying on my lap and he would kick her a couple of times...and down she went and would bark at me trying to figure out why I was being so mean...Silly girl!

They just look at you so funny when the baby kicks! Jasper would jump up and just stare at the spot and then glare at me and then settle down again. When Meeg kicked again he would start all over again. He never seemed to get used to it. Of course she never kicked in the same spot so he could never figure out what was going on - but he never gave up on trying to find that one perfect spot!

As Robin said, dogs have an uncanny knack (cats also) to tell when you're not feeling well, when you're sad or hurt, so why not tune in to your pregnancy? Since my 'baby' is now 18, I don't really remember much about my animals at that point, except my cat would also get rather perturbed if one of the boys would kick while he was on my lap. He'd look up and glare at me, as if to say 'Now cut that out!!'. So, I'd have to say that yes, he definitely senses something. If they can tell when female dogs are pregnant, then why not other species? Catherine
